Heres a list of stuff that are pretty cool or a little bit secret in the new GTA…
- The insane river jump from Alderney to Algonquin just south of the top bridge. Its gonna need a run-up!
- The fat hookers
- Ricky Gervais at the Split Side comedy club
- The desperate civilians clinging onto the car that you have just stolen from them as you storm down the road at 80mph
- First time playing and not realising how to hang on to a ledge, falling miles to my death as I smacked myself against the seemingly endless supply of metal poles that broke my fall.
- The grenades in a gunfight. Being subtle will get you nowhere!
- Bernie Crane aka Florien Crane – sterotyping at its best
- The options, if fairly limited, regarding if you let someone live or die
- SoboHoe – more of a love to hate moment, she is so annoying it’s not even worth the benefit that you get for dating her
- VIP ringtones. When you’ve paid $100 for a ringtone you know that you have quality inside your pocket
- Three Leaf Clover mission, so much fun! Its like a whole new adventure
More to come…
In a word, yes. But I were to go into depth there wouldn’t be the perfect scores that I have seen in many other places as there are some key elements that made San Andreas so detailed, missing.
The lack of planes does not worry me, as they do not actually add anything to the game, the lack of many clothing stores is not a problem as this is a very unnecessary part of the game, and the empty space where the flamethrower should be is also not a great problem.

There are of course exceptions to the brilliant, the problems that in my opinion lower the rating of the game, whether they be new additions, missing parts of old games or the way the game works, they all spoil an otherwise perfect game.
- The entriely city based landscape. I know that this was also true in GTA3 and Vice City yet the open expanse of desert and forest in San Andreas acted as a welcome haven to the sprawls of Los Santos and Las Venturas and also as a great place to just mess around in. What we get in terms of this in GTA4 are very minimal, and sometimes the city all seems abit the same.
- The lack of purchases and property. A factor I enjoyed in other games, especially in Vice City where you felt like you were working your way up in the world as a result of your many crimes. In GTA4 there is ZERO properties to buy or land or airstrips etc that we see in other games and the amount of safehouses given is minimal in terms of parking space too. You will get around 5 safehouses with 2 spots in each but does that really compare with the almighty hangar in San Andreas?
- Friends System. I initially thought that this was good, but as the game went on and I gained more and more contacts it grew a little tiring getting a call every hour asking to go drinking or play pool etc. The benefits are good, but to keep the like-ometer up is boring at best, it felt more like the Sims than GTA.
- Few Cars. Maybe it’s just me, but there are not that many cars, at least not as many as the old games, with GTA4. There are a handful of supercars, a couple of trucks and vans, a few jeeps and the odd splattering of the generic sedans and coupes. Yep, thats all I had to say about that.
Not alot of negatives, I may think of more soon, but they do have a negative effect, especially when outside of the main missions. Don’t get me wrong though, despite these reasons, GTA4 is one of the greatest games out there and the list of amazing additions is almost endless, the new police chase system = brilliant, the cover system = amazing, the car damage, the aiming system, the climbing abilities and the multiplayer are all great, and this game will keep me going for months to come I’m sure.
